Summer Leadership Academy has a history of offering Oklahoma Education Association (OEA) members a chance to learn, share, grow and have some fun. The 2008 academy will be no exception as local leaders explore the past and plan for the future.

The annual academy – Organizing From Success - will be held July 23-24 at the Hilton Tulsa Southern Hills. Emerging leaders from all six regions will meet on July 22 and then join other participants the following day.

Whether it’s recruiting new members, lobbying on a particular issue or campaigning for friends of education, a solid organizing plan is the framework for success.

“OEA’s legacy is built on a long list of successes at both the local and state level,” said OEA President Roy Bishop. “This year’s academy will give us an opportunity to examine those successes and build on them for the future.”

Based on a process called Appreciative Inquiry, activities will be designed around the “4D process” – Discovery, Dream, Design and Destiny. The end product will be a roadmap for positive change.

Participants will be given an opportunity through both large and small group settings to discuss the positive moments in our history, share those stories with one another, create a shared image of OEA’s future and design innovative ways to create that future.

“This is a great opportunity to be a part of OEA’s exciting and ongoing history,” said Bishop. “We need someone from every local to help us make the right choices. Please make the commitment to attend.”

A $45 registration fee covers training materials, all breaks and lunch on the 24th. Participants are responsible for all other meals and hotel costs.

Hotel reservations should be made through the Hilton Tulsa Southern Hills at 800/444-7263. Registration forms can be downloaded and mailed along with applicable fees to OEA, PO Box 18485, Oklahoma City, OK 73154 by July 11.

Letters verifying registration will be mailed to participants. If you have any questions, contact a member of your regional team or contact Teaching and Learning Assistant Karol Wilson at kwilson@okea.org or 800/522-8091.
